Courtney's Corner
Summer has flown by and so have my first 90 days serving as the President of your local United Way. I’m very excited to share with you some of the updates from these first 3 months, and also prepare you for areas to look forward to in the future!
In the last 3 months, we on-boarded 4 new staff members and welcomed 8 new board members to our ranks. These professionals are incredible assets to our organization and we’re thankful to have each of them as part of the team!
We ramped up efforts to serve the community by conducting 179 Help Me Grow developmental screenings, facilitating 7,907 2-1-1 calls, and by offering free prescription discount cards to families in need throughout the summer. Our team also participated in the Community Health Needs Assessment, Hurricane Dorian disaster response, and the Census 2020 committee among other community-wide initiatives.
We kicked off campaign in September at our Annual Meeting, which was attended by board members, business partners, community partners, and members of our affinity groups. Thank you to everyone for attending and committing to “Move the Fence” this year!
I am also excited to report that we have convened a Strategic Planning Committee to look at future trends in philanthropy and structure the vision of your local United Way. This team of volunteers is incredibly insightful, hardworking, and thoughtful in their focus on United Way’s future. Be on the lookout for our finalized plan in early 2020!
This transition has been an incredible learning experience for me and I’ve been lucky to have a great team of individuals around me both professionally and personally who have helped me through the process. I’d like to say thank you to my family for understanding the sacrifice it takes to love an organization and want to give your all to it, my United Way team for their commitment to our mission and their focus on the future, and the community leaders who have extended their congratulations, offered support, and been an incredible resource. Our community is better when we’re all working together – and I guarantee that you’ll see more partnership, strategic focus, and movement as our United Way reaches its potential.
