Advocating is about spreading the word, finding your voice and speaking up for those who often are not heard. Advocating is about voting, contacting your representatives, tell your friends about United Way and its Partner Agencies.

Anyone can champion the cause. Whether you’re speaking out to improve education, income and health, reaching out to members of Congress, or wearing the LIVE UNITED shirt to show your support, you can help inspire hope and create opportunities for a better tomorrow. So go ahead and advocate in a LIVE UNITED world. Do it in public. Be visible. Be loud.

Cap on Charitable Donations

Please consider forwarding this letter onto your representatives and expressing your concern over the proposed caps on charitable donations.

2-1-1 Act

Call your Member of Congress and ask him to cosponsor H.R.211, the Calling for 2-1-1 Act of 2009.

Becoming a "cosponsor" of a bill is the best way for a Member of Congress to demonstrate support for a bill. As of today (3/17/09) 92 out of 435 Congressmen are cosponsors. We must double this number during the next 60 days to ensure this bill gets through this year.

Call the House of Representatives' main number, (202) 225-3121. Ask for your Congressman's office. When you reach the Congressman's staff, tell them your name and that you are a constituent. Ask that she/he cosponsor H.R.211. Thank them for their service to your District.
