  The Volunteer Center

The United Way's Volunteer Center is one of Volusia and Flagler Counties’ largest resources devoted solely to the promotion and nurturing of volunteerism and community service. Working within the community since 1977, the Volunteer Center plays an integral role in United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties’ mission to increase the organized capacity of our community to care for its people.

The Volunteer Center recruits, develops, places and recognizes volunteers for hundreds of nonprofit organizations and agencies community wide. Based on your skills, interests and time restraints, we can help individuals, students, families, community organizations and businesses find a volunteering opportunity to match you with. The Volunteer Center works to provide nonprofit agencies with volunteers to fulfill their organization’s goals and needs.

Along with daily recruitment and placement of volunteers in our community, the Volunteer Center sponsors two major events every year. The Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Awards luncheon, held in April, recognizes and honors the efforts of volunteers in our community. In October, Make A Difference Day activities in Volusia and Flagler Counties are organized by the Volunteer Center.

"Everyone has a strength to share.  Often it is a skill or talent they've come to take for granted, but one that can make a difference in the life of somebody else if properly deployed"

Bill Shore, The Cathedral Within

Registering Your Agency

The Volunteer Center provides free services to nonprofit organizations, government volunteer programs, parks, schools and faith-based organizations.

Nonprofit organizations do not need to be an United Way Partner Agency to take advantage of the services offered by The Volunteer Center.

Agencies must register prior to posting volunteer opportunities. If your agency would like to register for this free service, start by signing a Member Organization Memorandum of Understanding and returning it to The Volunteer Center.

If you have any questions or need any additional information, please contact Laura Zublionis, Director of The Volunteer Center at 386-253-0563, ext. 239.

Campaign for Working Families

The Campaign for Working Families is a prosperity campaign. Our mission is to increase the resources available to the working poor, primarily through providing free tax preparation and financial literacy training so they can begin to build assets and become financially secure -giving people the tools to succeed -- changing the way people live.

The Volusia County Citizen Corps seeks to make communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to all types of disaster; including terrorism, by engaging individuals in crime prevention, emergency preparedness and response through education, training, and volunteer service.  It is sponsored by the Volusia County office of Emergency Management and managed by the United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties.  Click Here to find out more!

1. How do I get started?

Easy! United Way of Volusia and Flagler Counties has a collaborative webpage dedicated to connecting volunteers with opportunities. It's quick and easy, and you can do it online, right now. Just select this 1-800-volunteer.org link, and you'll be on your way.

To volunteer all you need is some free time and a willingness to help. Our experience has been the vast majority of people who are drawn to volunteering enjoy it immensely. The best part is, we can easily work around your schedule and your preferences to ensure you are involved with something you will enjoy.

 3. What does volunteering really do?

From community leaders who serve on our board, to the thousands of men and women who pitch in and help throughout the counties, volunteering makes the difference between hopelessness and hope.

 4. What kinds of volunteering are there?

There are literally hundreds of ways to volunteer. You will be asked specific questions about the kind of work you would like to do, the groups you would like most to work with, and other info. This ensures that you are linked up with an activity that is very close to what you are most comfortable doing. You can also opt for a one-time volunteering or ongoing volunteering, whichever one works best for you.
